They breed in British Columbia across Canada to Newfoundland, and south to Pennsylvania, North Dakota, Colorado, and Oregon and south in Appalachian and Rocky Mountains. They winter in South America.
They live in deciduous forests with lots of brush.
They are smaller than a robin, rusty-brown above, lighter below with rusty spotting on their breast. They have dark eyes.
They are strong singers.
They eat insects on the ground and fruits.
They build a cup-shaped nest of dead leaves and wet plant material to hold it together on the ground or in a low tree. Females lay 1 – 5 pale green-blue, only eggs.
