Habitat

They are found in cool woods and bogs.

Description

It has white petal-like leaves. In the center is a group of small, greenish flowers. In summer, the flower turns to a bunch of bright red berries. Its oval leaves come to a point. They are in a whorl under the flower. They bloom May through July. Also called, dwarf cornel.

Taxonomic Features (Traits) for Identification

  • Flower Type: Single flower with 4 white petal-like bracts around a bunch of tiny yellow flowers (too small to see but each with 4 petals).
  • Flower Color: Yellow
  • Leaf Arrangement: Whorled (6)
  • Plant Type: Wildflower (Large - 1-6 feet)
  • Leaf Type: Egg-shaped and entire (smooth edge)
