Life Cycles - Plants & Animals

All living things (organisms) have a life cycle. They are born, grow up, reproduce and die. Different groups of organisms (species) have different kinds of life cycles. Reproduction is the key to the all species' survival. Yet the life cycle of an insect is very different from the life cycle of a mammal or a reptile. Even plants have life cycles.

In this collection of resources, activities, assessment and visual aids, see the life cycles of many kinds of animals and plants illustrated for you to examine. Print them out as posters or try a life cycle activity. Build a life cycle model to compare and contrast different life cycles.

LS1.B Growth And Development Of Organisms

K-2 Parents and offspring often engage in behaviors that help the offspring survive.

3-5 Reproduction is essential to every kind of organism. Organisms have unique and diverse life cycles.

6-8 Animals engage in behaviors that increase the odds of reproduction. An organism’s growth is affected by both genetic and environmental factors.

9-12 Growth and division of cells in organisms occurs by mitosis and differentiation for specific cell types.
