Comfrey (Common)

Habitat

They bloom in summer in dry, sandy places.

Description

Flowers vary in color from yellow, white to purple. They are tubular and hang in groups over to one side, curving back at the edge. The 2-3’ tall plant is hairy with long, oval to lance-shaped, pointed leaves.

Taxonomic Features (Traits) for Identification

  • Flower Type: Flower Regular with 5 petals forming a bell

  • Flower Color: Bluish-light purple
Leaf Arrangement: Alternate

  • Plant Type: Wildflower (tall - 1-3 feet)

  • Leaf Type: Heart-shaped and entire (smooth edge) but covered in tiny, bristles and wrapped around stem at base. Basal leaves large, lance-shaped.
  • Stem: Covered in tiny bristles
