The Earth

 

Important Earth Facts:

  1. Earth is 7,926 miles wide (12,756 km).
  2. It is the 3rd planet from the sun – 93 million miles (150 million km) away.
  3. It takes 365 days to go around (revolve) the sun in its orbit.
  4. It takes 24 hours to spin on its axis (rotate).
  5. The Earth is actually tipped 23.5° on its axis which is why we have the changing seasons.
  6. In the Northern Hemisphere, in the summer, the Arctic is tipped so far toward the sun that from March 20th to September 22nd the sun never stops shining there.
  7. The Earth's crust is made up of shifting tectonic plates that move over a thick, rocky mantle.
  8. 75% of it is covered with water.
  9. It has active volcanoes and is the only planet with life (as we know it).
  10. Its atmosphere is made up of nitrogen and oxygen.
  11. The range of temperatures around the planet average 57.2°F (14°C)
  12. It has 1 moon.

When you research information you must cite the reference. Citing for websites is different from citing from books, magazines and periodicals. The style of citing shown here is from the MLA Style Citations (Modern Language Association).

When citing a WEBSITE the general format is as follows.
Author Last Name, First Name(s). "Title: Subtitle of Part of Web Page, if appropriate." Title: Subtitle: Section of Page if appropriate. Sponsoring/Publishing Agency, If Given. Additional significant descriptive information. Date of Electronic Publication or other Date, such as Last Updated. Day Month Year of access < URL >.
