Learn about our planets desert, grassland, mountain and rain forest habitats. Learn where all your favorite animals live and find out which are in danger of disappearing forever. See examples of camouflage, adaptations, nocturnal life, predators and their prey, life cycles and food webs in each habitat. This workshop includes one (or more) slide (or PowerPoint) shows featuring illustrations from the Habitats of the World series by Sheri Amsel, special photos of rare and endangered animals from all over the world and a trip into the Amazon rain forest in Brazil in search of the mysterious Amazon River Dolphin. We also take a look at how book illustrations are made from photo reference to book art. This performance can be followed by individual classroom visits where each student will illustrate their own habitat poster. This workshop is designed to enhance understanding of world geography, habitats, plant and animal natural history and how books are made. It is designed to follow curriculum guidelines for k-6, but has also been found to be appealing to older age groups. It can be adapted upon request. |
