Range
They are found in New Zealand and on small islands nearby.
Habitat
They live in lowland forests.
Body Traits
They are large grayish-green birds with a white chest, sides, belly and legs. They can be more than 18 inches long.
Habits
Because of their diet of berries, they help spread seeds in the forest. Their predators are all introduced species like rats, cats, possoms and weasels (stoats), which eat their eggs and young.
Diet
They eat seeds, buds, flowers and berries.
Reproduction
Males fly a display to attract a mate. Females lay 1 egg and both parents warm it (incubate) and protect it for a month.
