They are found on New Zealand.
Habitat
They live on sandy and rocky ocean shorelines.
Body Traits
They are black and white with a long, pointed, orange bill, orange eyes and feet. They are about 18 inches long.
Habits
They are wading birds. Introduced predators like weasels (stouts), possums and rats have brought the bird to the edge of extinction. They are extremely endangered.
Diet
They eat clams, oysters, worms and small ocean animals.
Reproduction
They scrape a nest on the shore in rocky or sandy areas, sometimes in low bushes.
